There are both similarities and differences in teaching the InnerSun branch of Reiki. Symbols are given, as in other branches of Reiki (including one symbol that is not generally included in other branches), but there is an added step that is not included in most branches of Reiki: igniting the sacred gTummo fires. In addition to the attunements, meditations are given to assist the student in nourishing the fires and working with them.

Two additional sets of hand positions are also included, one for balancing the chakra energy (particularly helpful for those with kundalini rising complications), and one that is acupoint-based for working with the meridians.
